The Story

Your first library should have your name on it! After all, it's the beginning of the whole world opening up to you. Where you will go and who you will meet in your first books? Everything I make is designed to be fun and enjoyable for children, to draw them in and foster their sense of independence. I created the Personalised Tidy Books bookcase because ordinary children's bookcases decorated or not made no sense to me - books fall out. Plus how can you put such thin books of different sizes on an ordinary shelf? A box doesn't work either as the kids can’t see the covers. I wanted something that works well for kids and their books and looks good too, so I created the original Tidy Books children's bookcase for my daughter, Adele in 2004. And this changed the way books are presented to children in the home. I make sure all my designs are stripped back to keep them looking stylish so they blend easily into a home. It’s about creating a timeless classic that can be passed down through the generations. My designs give kids the freedom to discover their world by themselves- because kids really do know best.

Fitting

Fitting Your Bookcase To the Wall

The bookcase is designed to rest on the floor, at about 5cm from the wall. For safety, you will need to screw the top of the bookcase into the wall. The bookcase will lean towards the wall at a slight angle, leaving space for dado rails and skirting boards (skirting boards up to 30cm high).

Wear and tear might mean a letter goes missing from your bookcase. If it happens, get in touch and we’ll make sure your bookcase has a complete alphabet once more.

For your child’s safety, we leave the screws uncovered. The bookcase is designed for very small children to use, and a cap or cover on the screws would be a choking hazard.

The heights of the shelves mean small and large books fit neatly.

Small books don’t get lost, and large books have a home on the differently sized shelves.

The dimensions of each shelf are:

Top, open shelf: height 21.2 in
Second shelf down: height 9 in
Third shelf down: height 7 in
Bottom, fourth shelf: height 10.6 in
Just a reminder, each shelf is 30.3 in wide and 2.8 in deep.

Delivery via FedEx usually within 30 working days. Handmade in our workshop in London and ships from UK. Price includes delivery charge of $50. Once dispatched you will receive an email with your FedEx tracking number.

Great bookcase

The tiny reader using this bookcase is very happy with it. There is easy access and being able to see the front of the books makes choosing easy.

Cute and functional bookshelf!

I bought this bookshelf for my baby’s room and it is absolutely adorable. It is easy to put together and the materials are good quality. I like that there are various sized shelves to feature different sized books! Customer service was very helpful with my order when I decided to switch to a different color bookshelf after I had already ordered. I would highly recommend this bookshelf and company!

Absolutely nothing to improve, the whole process from order to delivery and assembly was a pleasure. Please keep doing what you are doing!

Excellent product, well designed and manufactured, easy to assemble. Much appreciated.

BUT: poor communications.

1 - Impossible to make direct phone contact with anyone. Always asked to leave a message, which was invariably responded to by e-mail rather than by a direct call, as requested.

2 - We were asked if we were satisfied with the product before it was even shipped! This led to anxious checking with the potential recipients. We did get an apology for this error, but this was exceedingly bad business practice.

3 - We specifically asked to be informed of shipping PRIOR to DESPATCH, so that we could advise the recipients of the gift. Instead, we only received tracking notification the evening prior to delivery.

We are sorry you are not satisfied with our communication but we did pick up on your message and replied to let you know when your bookcase would be despatched . It is the usual process that DPD informs you exactly when your item will be delivered . Please bear in mind we are a small company and cannot always answer the phone as we may be in the workshop but pride ourselves in always getting back to customers promptly.
